Scorching heat with perspiration, temperature high at 38 degree Celsius and above all …lectures on such a sunny day. Can one imagine sitting in the classroom and attending the lecture in the dog days of summer?
I too couldn’t imagine myself sitting forcibly with my fellow classmates attending my political science lecture on such a sunny day. The teacher with his thick framed glasses stood right in front of us which gave him a clear view of the entire class. The topic for the day was about the political parties starting with congress. As he started with the first line saying—congress, the oldest and strongest political party the lights went off! The students were happy considering the fact that the teacher would end the lecture then and there itself but our professor who was keen in teaching politics and continued with his topic. Front benchers who are always considered as scholars were glued to his subject showing an interest in the political parties whereas the last benchers were already drooping and half asleep and least bothered about the parties as well as the teacher. My books too were wide open, mind wandering with all the possible thoughts I can get other than politics. I wished I could leave the class and chill out in the canteen with a plate of sandwich and a coke in front of me or just sit and relax listening to music in the common room. The professor was least bothered about the falling heads paying attention as his intention was to finish off with the portion and leave the class as soon as possible. Just ten minutes before the lecture could get over, the lights came and we all heaved a sigh of great relief..aah!! It was indeed a pity sight to see the plight of the students as the classroom fans as usual were rusted up and much noisy than being airy.
Classroom cannot be a classroom without students and teachers. But what if one has to attend the lecture on a hot sleepy afternoon. It would be simpler to fall on deaf ears…
