ARE WE RACIAL?

Can colour become one's identity? Is your skin colour more important than your educational status or you as a person, an individual? Why do people recognize an individual by his/her colour? How can people discriminate because of the skin colour? India is against racial discrimination but Indians are the ones who create racism. This is true in many cases. In order that a person with dark skin should not feel bad they are addressed as 'BLACK BEAUTY'. If beauty really exists then why differentiate as black and white. A rhythmic line which goes like this ‘hum kaale hai toh kya hua dilwaale hai’ has become a soothing line for the mental satisfaction of the dark skinned. A person looks smart, beautiful, is intelligent, is brave only if she/he is fair. Is it so? Whether the skin is black or white isn’t the blood under the skin red? Why don't people realize that? Whether it is beauty contest or admission in a college or job people look how fair you are .we hardly find one amongst the thousands who actually go by the person's personality or aptitude .even the matrimonial demands ask for a girl who is fair and beautiful. This means there is no room for the dark skinned anywhere and they are set apart from the society. Their dreams should be limited as a closed room. If it is fair it is beautiful and dark then ugly. Colour should not be given so much importance. People should realize that the fairness of a person lies in his /her personality .look out the media portrayals, which sets the false image in the minds of the viewers. for e.g.- brand name FAIR N LOVELY'--if you are dark skinned ,you are disqualified from being an airhostess, or a singer and when u apply the cream, u tend to become fair and you win a position. What message does the ad gives the viewers--which a dark skinned person has, no position or an image in the society. He is loser if he is dark. They have also introduced the new cream FAIR AND HANDSOME which shows that a girl ignores the guy because he is dark. Is this the way to sell a product by hurting the sentiments of the people who are dark? It is true that there are people who fall prey to such ads and buy the product. According to the statistics the sales of fair n lovely and other fairness creams are higher compared to other products. I don't know whether the positive results in the cream makes the sales higher or the faith in people that one day the result will be positive makes it higher. The race goes on—who wins? It is not the fair or dark but whether you or me?
